After falling for the beauty of glass at a stained glass workshop I attended some years ago, but wanting a craft that I could safely continue at home (i.e. without using a soldering iron the dining room!), I taught myself how to mosaic. A busy career in health and research prevented me developing this very far. However, having recently retired, I’m seeking to learn more and advance my mosaic art much further.
My favourite mosaic medium is stained glass. I love to capture the ever changing light and reflections it offers whenever I can. However, I also enjoy using all sorts of found objects to produce picassiette mosaics. This may include broken china, sea pottery and glass, mirror shards, shells, buttons, etc. and I often mix these with cut stained glass pieces to enhance my designs, which are usually very colourful.
My work is particularly inspired by the nature, light and rich colours of the beautiful Devon countryside and coast that I am so fortunate to live amongst. If possible, I love to make items that can be used and displayed outdoors, within the lovely natural world of south west England.
