South West Mosaic Artists

I completed a fine art degree at UWE specialising in painting and printmaking.

I followed this up by qualifying as a FE teacher and running printmaking and drawing classes at Exeter College part-time and in the community. I made my first mosaic in 2003, just as an experiment, and really enjoyed it. Gradually I began to make more mosaics than prints or paintings and now I only make mosaics.

I don't have a favourite material or method and enjoy going from one to the other, which I believe prevents me from becoming bogged down in one style.

I use glass, ceramic tiles, crockery, porcelain, smalti, pieces made in my glass or pottery kiln and found objects.

My subject matter is also diverse, and I enjoy abstract and figurative imagery equally. I have taken part in many school projects, community workshops, public art projects and I exhibit and teach regularly. I have just completed a large public art project for Totnes Town Council. I am a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen in Bovey Tracey and take part in Devon open studios every year. My main influences are Gustav Klimt, Mexican folk art, tattoo imagery, nature and I have an obsession with birds.
