Adela is a self-taught mosaic artist with qualifications and a working background in textiles, photography and graphics. Her first mosaic was made in December 2015 after receiving stained glass as a Christmas present.

Adela has spent her adult years moving frequently, including nine years in the USA. While living in San Diego, California she often visited artist Niki De Saint Phalle’s Queen Califia’s Magical Circle sculpture garden. Niki's mosaic sculptures were to leave a lasting impact on Adela.

The mosaic art materials she uses allow her passion for colour and pattern to literally shine. Her mosaics are full of swirls and curves and often have elements of nature in them as well as spiritual ones. Adela loves the challenge of creating curves with squares of glass! She uses a variety of glass tiles, stained glass and china amongst other objects such as beads and copper pipe. Like most mosaic artists, Adela is a self-confessed magpie or Womble and rarely leaves a charity shop or trip to the beach empty-handed.

In March 2017, she opened Moon Hare in Holsworthy, Devon. It was her vision, with a friend, to bring art and spiritual healing to their small town. This move also gave Adela her first dedicated studio and gallery space, where she soon began running mosaic workshops. She has since moved to her studio dedicated purely to mosaic and has been awarded the Platinum Student Choice Award for Excellence from Craft Courses.

In the summer of 2018, she worked with Holsworthy Museum and the community to design and make a mosaic to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War One, and she looks forward to being involved in more public projects in the future.

Her goal for the future is to carry on experimenting and learning the many techniques of mosaic and start to work on mosaic sculptures.
